SUPER DIVISIONS
Super Division Umpires are required to have a minimum National rating in USA or it's
International equivalent. FIH rating is preferred. Qualified umpires are requested to
apply by registering online. Umpires officiating for the first time at California Cup are
also required to send an email / resume detailing their experience. Final selections will
be determined in March 2009 or earlier.
Super Division teams do not have to designate an umpire or pay an umpires deposit.
Super division players who are legitimate umpires are encouraged to register to umpire
during the tournament in other divisions.
UNDER DIVISIONS
Teams entering the Under 13, 11 & 9 divisions do not have to designate an umpire.
Nevertheless, any coaches & parents accompanying the team who are qualified as
umpires are encouraged to register to umpire during the tournament.
MENS / WOMENS COMPETITIVE DIVISIONS
MIXED SOCIAL / UNDER 19 / UNDER 16 DIVISIONS
All teams are required to pay a refundable umpiring deposit of $400 and designate an
umpire or forfeit their deposit if they are unable to provide an umpire.
* In order to qualify for a refund of a team's umpiring deposit, all designated umpires
must meet the following requirements:
- Attend the Mandatory Umpires Meeting on Friday, May 22nd, 2009 at the Hyatt
Westlake at 8pm.
- Officiate a minimum of 2 matches per day on Saturday, Sunday & Monday.
- Must not be committed to more than 2 teams as a player and/or coach.
- Must officiate all matches assigned to him / her.
- Must be a Certified Umpire with the USFHA or FHF. Exceptions can be granted to
qualified non-certified umpires at the discretion of the Tournament Director.
- Must Register Online no later than May 1st, 2009.
NON-DESIGNATED UMPIRES
Any legitimate player or non-player who is not his/her team's designated umpire but
would like to officiate during the tournament is encouraged to register to umpire during
the tournament. Your attendance at the Umpires meeting on Friday night at the Hyatt
Westlake is still required.
UMPIRING STIPENDS
Super Division (By Invitation Only) - $40.00 per umpire per match
MC / WC / MS / U19G / U16 & Golden Stars
DEDICATED QUALIFIED UMPIRES - $25.00 per umpire per match
TEAMS DESIGNATED UMPIRES - $20.00 per umpire per match
U13 / U11 & U9
2 UMPIRES / MATCH - $10.00 per umpire per match
1 SENIOR UMPIRE - $15.00 per match
UMPIRES UNIFORM
Umpires are required to wear black shorts or kilts. Any color socks or shoes are OK.
Umpires jerseys will be distributed at the Mandatory Umpires Meeting on Friday, May
23rd, 2008 at the Hyatt Westlake at a time to be posted later. Please bring an extra
Red & Blue T-shirt in case of a color clash with teams.
FREE ACCOMMODATIONS
Limited Free accommodations (available at the Tournament Director's discretion) are
available for DEDICATED (Non-playing/coaching) QUALIFIED UMPIRES who meet the
following requirements:
- Is not a designated umpire by any team. (Registration still required).
- Reside at least 100 miles from the tournament site.
- MUST be a USFHA rated umpire.
- Is willing to officiate at least 4 matches a day.
- Must attend the Mandatory Umpires Meeting on Friday, May 22nd, 2098 at the
Hyatt Westlake at 8pm.
- Umpires will be paired 2 per room.
